Characteristic of the work is Aigner’s masterful command of translating painterly qualities into graphic form, through which he develops a clearly structured, contour-based visual language. Reality and staging intertwine, resulting in a concentrated reflection on the artist’s own role and the act of seeing itself. The title “Am I My Own Grandfather” underscores this playfully paradoxical self-questioning, in which identity, ancestry, and temporal relations are ironically shifted and the question of one’s own origin is pushed into the realm of the absurd.
