Oskar Laske, originally trained as an architect, was introduced to painting through Anton Hlavacek but still considered himself a self-taught artist. Despite his formal education as an architect, he eventually devoted himself entirely to painting, becoming one of the most significant figures in the Vienna art scene in the first half of the 20th century. In the present work, a stage design, he combines his architectural knowledge with his artistic passion. The artist was a member of the Hagenbund, the Secession, and the Künstlerhaus.
