After his studies at the Prague Art Academy and the turbulence of the First World War, Kohl concentrated on painting. Quite typical for him are still lifes, especially flower paintings, landscapes and figure paintings in his own sensitive, neo-objective as well as expressionist style. The Albertina, the Wien Museum and the Graphische Sammlung Leipzig own a number of works by this talented observer of nature.
The present work shows a calm, peaceful landscape on the Rosenhügel in bright sunny weather in an airy application of paint, where the artist had also set up his studio. An undoubtedly positive effect on the viewer is achieved above all by the artistically accomplished flood of light.
Minimal frame marks at upper left. Does not disturb the overall impression.
