The Austrian painter Heinrich Krause (1885–1983), once a member of the Vienna Secession, distinguished himself in his still lifes from the 1950s onward through a spontaneous, loose brushstroke and an often chalk-like, restrained palette, transforming classical floral and fruit motifs into a harmonious dissolution of form.
